Architecture competition with impressive results for Domagkpark project
The site of the former “Funkkaserne” radio barracks has had an eventful past. Now the site in the north of the Munich district of Schwabing is set to become a lively new district with around 1,700 apartments. The special projects company of the Rosa-Alscher Group called for entries as part of an architectural design competition for the “Bauquartier MK3” building zone. The first prize went to the Palais Mai architects from Munich.
“All entries offered exciting answers to the architectural challenge presented by this demanding environment”, was how managing director Dr. Alexander Rosa-Alscher summarised the jury session. The jury, chaired by Professor Ulrike Lauber, was impressed by the different takes on urban design shown by the participants. The winning contribution from the architects’ firm Palais May together with grabner + huber landscape architects was especially impressive. They developed two cuboid-like building sections to form a passage. This created the impression of being an entrance to the Domagkpark district as a whole, to which “MK3” belongs.
The idea of a high-rise residential building – as submitted by the kern and repper architects Partnerschaft Blauwerk together with michellerundschalk landscape architects – was also very well received. The consistent and bold solution to the challenge posed was what made the design so impressive, with the elegant high-rise building serving as a conspicuous focal point for the entire area. The work was quite rightly awarded the second prize. One of the two winning designs will now be selected to be included in the project’s execution.
Dr. Rosa-Alscher and the head of the group, Mr. Wolf-Detlef Huth, were clearly very pleased with the results of the competition and impressed with the innovative approaches taken in the contributions. “I’m sure that with these designs for the ‘Bauquartier MK3’, we will be able lend the site of the old Funkkaserne a character that is both entirely individual and fitting”, stressed Rosa-Alscher.
The winning entries will be displayed at the Department for Urban Planning and Building Regulations between the 14th and 22nd of April 2015.
